If you haven\u2019t yet heard of the European Accessibility Act (EAA)<\/strong>, this article is for you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the European Accessibility Act?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The European Accessibility Act (EAA)<\/strong>, also known as Directive 2019\/882<\/a><\/strong>, is a European regulation designed to ensure that all citizens\u2014including those with disabilities\u2014can access digital products and services without barriers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Spain alone, over 4.3 million people live with some form of disability<\/strong>. On top of that, internet use among older adults is becoming more and more common. That\u2019s why making digital platforms accessible is not only a legal obligation<\/strong>, but also something essential in today\u2019s society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When do you have to comply with this law?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Spain has already incorporated this European regulation into national law through Law 11\/2023<\/a><\/strong>, passed on May 8th, which includes the EU rules on digital accessibility<\/strong>. This law ensures that certain products and services are accessible<\/strong> to all individuals, including people with disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, private companies have until June 28, 2025<\/strong>, to fully comply with digital accessibility requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, there\u2019s a transitional period until 2030<\/strong> for digital products and services that were already on the market before the law came into effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which products and services are affected?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

European lawmakers are clear: for a level playing field, everyone must play by the same rules. That\u2019s why all companies and member states <\/strong>are subject to the same obligations. The affected products and services <\/strong>include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
